LungSys II Consortium’s Mission

LungSys II is a highly interdisciplinary consortium with members from medical science, biochemistry, cell biology, medical imaging, chemistry, physics, mathematics and industry. Its mission is to identify and understand the regulation and interactions among the EGFR, HGFR, TGFbeta, IGF-1R and EpoR signaling pathways that lead to metastasis in the early stages of lung carcinoma and to drug resistance. LungSys II employs a Systems Biology approach integrating experimental data generated by molecular biology and clinical research into different mathematical modeling approaches. These models will be defined and calibrated based on time-resolved quantitative data of the molecular behavior, interaction/communication among cells and migration. The models describing processes on various scales will eventually be integrated in a multi-scale model that will be utilized to better understand disease progression and develop strategies to avoid drug resistance.
